Joseph W. Ivory

DDS, FACS

Dr. Ivory was born in Chicago, IL and was raised in Clinton, IA. After high school, he completed one year of college and then enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantryman. After his initial Active Duty obligation, he attended the University of Iowa. It was At the University of Iowa that he met and married Juie Ivory, graduating Highest Honors with a BS in Microbiology.

He was accepted into the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and accepted the Health Professional Scholarship for the United States Army after 9/11 2001. Upon graduation he attended the Officer Basic Course and was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. He was Assigned to 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VIII (2006), X (2007) and XII (2008).

Towards the end of this assignment, Dr. Ivory applied for training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was accepted to the residency program at Womack Army Medical Center starting in 2009. He graduated in 2013 and stayed on one year as faculty. He applied for fellowship training and was accepted at the Oral and Facial Surgery Institute for fellowship training in 2014-2015.

After Fellowship, Dr. Ivory was assigned as the Assistant Program Director at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Ft. Bliss, TX from 2015-2018. He was then transferred from Ft. Bliss to Eisenhower Army Medical Center on Ft. Gordon, GA to serve as the Program Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program. During his time there he helped create an agreement with Augusta University and served as adjunct faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the residency program.

Dr. Ivory retired from Active Duty at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2022. He accepted a position at Alabama Surgical Arts in Montgomery Alabama. Dr. Ivory served on the Second District on the Alabama Dental Association for three years, closing out his time as President. In 2026, he Accepted a position at the Oral Facial Surgery Institute and relocated to the St. Louis area with his family.

Dr. Ivory has authored multiple articles and book chapters in scholarly publications and textbooks. He is a member of multiple surgical societies, has lectured in residency programs and dental societal meetings around the United States and is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Most importantly, Dr. Ivory is a Christian, the husband of Julie Ivory and the proud father of four daughters, Jill, Jessica, Jane and Jordan.
