Rishad Shaikh

DMD, FACS

Dr. Shaikh was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He received his undergraduate training in Biology and Psychology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Afterwards, he moved on to the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. Upon successful completion of dental school, Dr. Shaikh obtained his initial training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery through and internship at West Virginia University. Dr. Shaikh then completed a 4-year residency in OMS at West Virginia University.

Following his residency, Dr. Shaikh traveled to St. Louis to complete a year long full scope OMS Fellowship at Mercy Medical Center. Upon completion of the fellowship, he returned to Cleveland where he taught Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Metro Health in affiliation with Case Western’s residency training.

Dr. Shaikh is dual board certified by both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Shaikh is also a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Fellowship in ACS is limited to surgeons who continue to perform complex hospital based surgical procedures. Admission into the College requires a stringent application process with review of major surgical case log by a panel of board-certified surgeons in multiple subspecialties.

He returned to St. Louis in 2015, where he has been in private practice ever since but he continues to participate in academic OMS as a surgical attending at Mercy Medical Center St. Louis in the training of the next generation of OMS Fellows.

Dr. Shaikh has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals and has authored multiple surgical textbooks and textbook chapters in a variety of topics within the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Shaikh is also one of the lead lecturers in a nationally attended surgical board review course designed to aid new graduates in successful completion of the examination process to achieve “board” status with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
